Common Microphone Issues
Browser says "Permission denied"
Click the lock/info icon in your address bar โ Site settings โ Microphone โ Allow. Then refresh the page.
Mic works but no sound in Zoom/Discord
Make sure the correct microphone is selected in Zoom/Discord audio settings. Our tool tests browser access โ if it works here, your mic hardware is fine.
Waveform doesn't move
Your mic may be muted in system settings. On Windows: right-click speaker icon โ Sound settings โ Input. On Mac: System Preferences โ Sound โ Input.
Volume is very low
Increase mic input level in your OS sound settings. Also check if the mic has a physical gain knob. Speak closer to the microphone (4-6 inches).
Which microphone should I buy?
For calls: any USB headset works great ($20-50). For streaming/podcasting: Blue Yeti, Audio-Technica AT2020, or Rode NT-USB Mini ($60-130).
